Special Track of the International ACM Conference on Management of Emergent Digital Ecosystems (MEDES’13)
Description and Objectives
This special track aims to bring together a large community, which is constituted by academia, government, research institutes, and industry from Brazil and Europe, that are interested to explore current challenges related to resource management of digital ecosystems and, as well as to understand how current approaches and technologies can be developed and adapted for improving the development of Brazilian and Europe society. The propose of this track is to show main areas and projects in development related to Information Technology Ecosystems and to look for opportunities to collaborate with European participants involved in the MEDES conference. Special sessions are expected to be proposed by companies and research institutions with themes related to topics of the conference. In fact, this track will be a great opportunity to promote cooperation with innovation and practice in IT R&D among Brazilian/Latin American and European Institutions.
It will be an opportunity to potential partners to collaborate within two global initiatives of Brazilian Federal Government in cooperation with Europe: the Science without Borders Program (http://www.cienciasemfronteiras.gov.br/web/csf-eng/) and the Strategic Program of Software and Services for Information Technology (http://timaior.mcti.gov.br).
Several R&D areas will participate, in special, R&D for natural disaster prevention. Two main natural disaster and resilient centers will present their initiatives. Digital inclusion initiative also will be presented with CNRTA, Brazilian Centre for Assistive Technologies and e-Gov through Digital TV. In addition, innovation and entrepreneurship will be demonstrated with Start-up Brazil, Public Software initiative, and Brazil's new trademark license.
These programs and initiatives have already reached important results and it will be excellent to enhance the collaboration among universities, research centers and industries from different continents.
Authors are invited to submit full research papers and on a variety of topics, including but not limited to:
- Software forge ecosystem
- Social computing
- Collective intelligence discovery
- Collaborative e-government
- Collective awareness system and monitoring and prevention of natural disasters
- Governance models for collaborative networks
- New approaches for government and IT
Short industry papers (up to 4 pages in the ACM format) or presentations on practical experiences with collaborative development are invited, especially on the following subjects:
- Case studies in industrial open innovation
- Collaborative physical systems
- Risk monitoring
- Technology evaluation
- Systems and metrics for measuring performance
- Accessibility and inclusion
- 3D printing technologies
- Start-up and big data
Papers addressing or including cooperation between institutions other than Europe are also welcome.

Paper Selection Process and Publication
This special track of the MEDES conference will follow the general guidelines of the conference with respect to submission and paper selection. All submitted papers will be published in the MEDES conference proceedings, with the same opportunities for selection to journal special issues.
